Glidden Wisconsin Overview

The Town of Glidden, like most of the southern communities of Ashland County, had its origin in the days of the lumber boom.  After the logging era ended, Glidden became a thriving center for dairy farmers, loggers and a wood products industry.

The hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and ATVing is among the best in northern Wisconsin.  Known as the Black Bear Capital of Wisconsin, Glidden boasts of a record black bear taken in this area during the 1963 gun season, weighing 665 lbs., and measuring 10’7″ in length.

The Glidden area is the gateway to two major forests, the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and the Ashland County Forest located in the headwaters area of the Chippewa River.  The Northern Continental Divide is located a few miles north of Glidden and is marked with a clear sign.  The architecturally unique Marion Park Pavilion, located in Glidden’s Marion Park, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and hosts special events throughout the year including the Glidden Community Fair every Labor Day weekend.
